She believes the AVID program is a very special program that is very important to high schoolers as they learn so much to prepare them for college. Emmaleen is very excited to be a tutor this year; she remembers her freshmen year talking to the SOS tutors at the time and couldn’t wait till she was a senior to be the same. Emmaleen knows that AVID and tutorology are very important for students because of the help they receive for their academics and leadership skills. Emmaleen will be attending Susquehanna University to study international studies and play lacrosse!
Matthew Fekete
Matthew is a focused and hardworking individual who aspires to go to college such as Rowan, Georgian Court, or Husson University. AVID has helped Matt since eighth grade with his organization and any unanswered questions he had were answered during tutorology. The biggest benefit, in his opinion, was being able to get an early start on his college search and essay. He chose to be a tutor to get more involved in the AVID program, as well as gain work experience and bring some help to the hardworking kids in the classes.
Marion Fopeano
Marion is a tutor in the AVID program. Being in AVID has taught Marion to manage her time, look at colleges early, and be fully prepared for applying to colleges. Marion became an AVID tutor because, she loves helping other students and wants to be a great role model for younger students. She appreciated all the help her AVID tutors had given her and wants to do the same for younger AVID students. Outside of school, Marion plays softball on a travel team and the school team. After high school, Marion’s plan is to attend Caldwell University and major in education.
Salvatore Fama
Sal has been in AVID for the past six years. AVID is very useful because as you progress through high school, the classes get harder and the course material becomes challenging. AVID Tutorials help students learn and understand the material in a shorter time period. Sal thinks that tutorial is great for learning because not only are you learning the material if you didn’t know it, but you are also studying the material by going over what was learned in class. Keeping organized was a struggle for Sal, but ever since he joined AVID, he has been able to find all necessary items. Having a clean binder with folders and dividers makes it easier to file papers away. AVID is a great experience because you get to bond with the same people for multiple years and become family. AVID will help with the ups and downs throughout high school and prepare you for college.
Declan Cioffi
Declan is an AVID tutor. He firmly believes that tutorology is excellent for students to get comfortable with in high school, for it will help them profoundly in higher levels of education. He became a tutor to reciprocate the help and role model figure that the senior tutors gave him his freshman year. He appreciates all the AVID program does for him and his peers and is excited to use what he has taken away from it to excel in college. Declan participated in high school soccer for four years, as well as Red Cross club. He interns for NJFASSST and plans on attending Stockton University, striving to someday become a physical therapist.
