Working Papers
New Jersey Working Papers for Minors
In New Jersey, youth workers under 18 must obtain Working Papers to be employed. Remember, minors can only apply for Working Papers **after receiving a job offer!
Important Update: Streamlined Online Process
As of June 1, 2023, the New Jersey Department of Labor (NJDOL) now manages and administers Working Papers for minors. This means a new online application process that is easy and fast for students, parents, and employers.
Once a minor receives a job offer, they should apply for Working Papers through the online system. The application process involves completing a few simple steps:
Step 1: Apply Online
The minor and the employer will complete sections of the application, ensuring all legal requirements are met.
Step 2: Submit Required Documents
Required documents include proof of age (like a birth certificate) and proof of school enrollment.
Step 3: Receive Working Papers
Once the application is processed, the minor will receive their Working Papers digitally.
